I Solve Web Problems
I began my career as a visual designer. I loved the challenge of creating interesting graphics to communicate my message effectively. Making it all work has been my passion.
Typography was one of my early interests, beginning with lessons in calligraphy and nurtured in the era of Letraset and typesetting. To know how much a page of custom set type cost, you had to count characters and multiply by line width to find the column inch – design choices were investments. Colors were chosen based on the Pantone color swatches that were then matched by the printers. But a successful design not only had to meet technical specs, but also visual ones. Was the right information displayed in a way that was understandable to the viewer? Did the message come across? Was it readable?
Fast forward to the work I do now, which uses a vastly different set of decisions. Visual design more than ever, is the basis for all the information we interact with on our screens. We still want it to look cool, engage viewers, and be usable. But there are new challenges now beneath the surface – on the code level.
And I have found that there is where I thrive.
I love to figure out how to present your information most effectively, by selecting the interactions that work best for your audience, your technology and your message. Those interactions are all based on code, knowing what works. And when clients come to me with a ‘broken’ site, it’s my kind of challenge to fix it and get your communication working again.
Here are some of the way I can help solve website problems:
- A site that has stopped working due to lack of updates to your theme, your plugins, your server or WordPress.
- Sites that were abandoned by former web support teams
- Sites that need major updates to content or branding
- Broken domain names
- Moving websites to a new host
- Websites that were never activated
- Adding ecommerce to a website
- Mailing list implementation
- HTML site conversions to WordPress
- Changing payment processors
I love these kind of challenges. My problem solving toolbox is packed with solutions. And if I don’t know the answer right away, I’ll jump down the rabbit hole to find out the possibilities. Research is my kind of fun.
